Recycled Materials

BigToys sturdy and durable steel and plastic structural system contains 100% U.S. made recycled materials. This gives BigToys one of the highest percentages of recycled content available in playground equipment today. Our use of post-consumer, high density polyethylene plastic in our decks, roofs and enclosures helps keep hundreds of thousands of milk jugs out of landfills every year.

Renewable Resource

Thanks to sustainable forestry practices, North America has more total acreage planted in trees than it did more than seven decades ago. Three superior trees are planted for every one felled to make BigToys playground equipment. We make the most of our natural resources.

The wood we choose for our playground equipment contains no heavy metals and is arsenate-free. The conditioning process penetrates the wood under pressure to provide lasting durability, releases no air pollutants or wastewater, and uses recycled materials. The conditioning preservative won't leach out, won't dissolve, won't stain, and won't pollute. Conditioned wood lasts more than 5 times longer than unconditioned wood. Longer life means using less of our natural resources and further protecting your investment.

BigToys Contain No PVC

In 2004 BigToys removed all Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) from our playground equipment, replacing it where necessary with more eco-friendly alternatives. PVC is a material that represents health risks throughout its life cycle including manufacturing, use and disposal (1). Plasticized PVC is found on many playground structures and poses its greatest potential hazard to children in this form when burned as a result of vandalism. The burning of PVC coated components on playground equipment can result in a hazardous concentration of toxic PCB’s and carcinogenic dioxin residue left behind on your playground (2).
